Tom McCarthy

Kia Ora, I’m Tom, a first-year student at the University of Canterbury, studying a Bachelor of Science and majoring in Physics.

I’m originally from Wellington but relocated to Christchurch for my studies. I achieved Merit Endorsements in NCEA Level 1 and 2, and an Excellence Endorsement in Level 3. I am confident to tutor Year 9-11 Maths and Science (Physics, Chemistry), and Level 2 and 3 Physics and Mathematics (Calculus, Algebra). These experiences have taught me different learning styles across subjects that are applicable to a student’s unique learning preferences.

I also volunteered as a primary Japanese Language Tutor, where I developed strong patience and clear communication. Apart from academics, I enjoy Gaming, watching Formula 1, solving Rubik’s Cubes, and going to the Gym.  

I am enthusiastic about helping students gain confidence in their abilities, deepen their understanding, and achieve their academic goals through productive and enjoyable learning experiences.
