Isla Read

Kia Ora! I’m Isla, a second-year student at the University of Canterbury. I am studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English, with a double minor in Psychology and History, with the intention of becoming a secondary school teacher. I am originally from Blenheim where I attended Marlborough Girls College.

I have a long running passion for learning which was reflected in my various merit and excellence endorsements throughout NCEA Level 1, 2, and 3. I was a Prefect in 2024 where I oversaw our Year 9 mentoring program. This, along with my experience as a high school tutor, has strengthened my ability to provide tailored help for students needing some extra encouragement and confidence in their academic abilities. I aim to create a safe, positive, calm, and uplifting environment where students feel capable of achieving their educational goals. I am confident tutoring Y9-13 English, Y9-11 Science, along with Biology and History to NCEA Level 3.

Outside of my academics, I enjoy being active and outdoors whether that be going to the beach or going for a walk with friends. In my spare time I also play the guitar and always have a good book on the go! I look forward to having the opportunity to support and encourage students on their academic journey!
