Melissa Dong
Hello! I’m Melissa, an experienced and warm-hearted teacher with a Master of TESOL, which I completed with Distinction at the University of Canterbury. Language teaching is one of my key strengths, supported by my strong academic foundation and 3 years of hands-on experience. I have taught nearly 500 students from diverse backgrounds and age groups, and I’m proud to have helped many achieve their goals and take their next steps around the world.
Having experienced first-hand how teaching and learning can open doors and broaden our understanding of the world, I find great meaning in helping others discover the same possibilities. I believe teaching is about more than transferring knowledge — it is about empowering students to become more confident, capable and independent, while building genuine and trusting relationships.
Outside teaching, I’m a proud cat mum to my calico Exotic Shorthair. I enjoy lots of different things, but strength training is my greatest passion! I love challenging myself and seeing progress over time. I also enjoy sketching and oil painting, and playing the piano in my spare time. I believe in developing both a strong mind and a strong body, and I’m really looking forward to bringing that spirit to our students’ learning journeys!
