Leila Baxter
I am currently studying at the University of Wellington, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Linguistics and Sociology.
I completed the IB Diploma in Malaysia, and I am confident tutoring IB subjects such as Psychology and Mathematics (with particular strengths in calculus and statistics). Through my own experience in the IB, I developed strong essay writing, analytical and critical thinking, as well as exam preparation skills, which I continue to draw on when supporting others.
I am fluent in English and Spanish, and always aim to adapt explanations to suit different learning styles and communication needs. Linguistics is one of my main (and favourite) academic interests, especially because of its connections to psychology, cognition, as well as logic, and I plan to pursue speech pathology in the future.
In tutoring, it is incredibly important for me to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions and take risks. My focus is to help students develop the skills to evaluate the knowledge they learn critically, write effectively, and approach problems in a structured and independent way. I place a strong emphasis on encouragement throughout the learning process, for me, this means acknowledging all progress, and helping students feel capable even when concepts feel challenging.
