Jamie McDermott

Kia ora, my name is Jamie, and I am in my fourth and final year of studying towards a Bachelor of Arts and Science majoring in Anthropology and Genetics. I look forward to supporting and empowering young learners to become confident students who are motivated to achieve their goals.

I attended Catholic Cathedral College in Christchurch from 2018 to 2022, where I achieved excellence endorsements in NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3, as well as subject endorsements in Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English, Physics, and Religious Education. I also had the privilege of serving as Head Girl and graduated as Proxime Accessit in 2022.

Through my academic experience and time working with younger students, I have learned the importance of creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I believe that building confidence is an essential part of learning, and I aim to encourage students to recognise their strengths while developing skills and understanding they need to succeed.

Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time with my friends, cooking and baking, playing the flute, archery, and reading. I currently offer tutoring in Year 9-11 Mathematics and Sciences, as well as NCEA Level 2 Biology.
