Ethan Maw

Hi! My name is Ethan Maw, and I am in my first year at Otago University, enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce program majoring in accounting and finance. I attended Otago Boys’ High School from 2020 to 2024, where I was involved in many out-of-school activities, including the Young Enterprise Scheme, squash, handball and cricket. I held several volunteer positions, both in the community and at school, as well as holding a part-time position at Mosgiel New World. I have a strong academic background, where in my final year of High School, I received the NZQA Scholarship in Accounting, as well as receiving the top in subject prize for Accounting, Business Studies and Economics, as well as claiming the Commerce Prize for top commerce student.

I have great communication and soft skills. I grew up in Hong Kong in an international community, and have been exposed to many diƯerent cultures as a way of life. This has taught me how to value people, even those with diƯering views and backgrounds from mine. Before StarJam went into liquidation, I was a volunteer at the StarJam Mosgiel Melody Makers Workshop. I helped to run weekly music workshops for children with disabilities. This role has taught me that communication is more than just verbal and that everyone can add value, irrespective of their physical attributes. Furthermore, I volunteer at the West Taieri District War Memorial Hall Society in Outram, where I manage the accounts for the Hall and its community sub-groups as well as prepare financial statements, apply for grants and manage day-to-day accounts for the Hall.

I offer tutoring up to NCEA Level 3 (Year 13) in Accounting, Economics, Chemistry and Physics. I can also tutor Year 9-11 Mathematics and Science, and up to NCEA Level 2 (Year 12) in Mathematics.
